If you have the Red Ring of Death or any other problem that prevents the unit from powering on properly then this is the repair for you. Can I contact you for repair status?
We provide repair status by phone call only. If you email repair status we will simply respond with "call us". The email process is not in the same location as the repair process so status by email takes too much time to answer multiple status requests daily. If you call us you will be able to speak to the repair facility and they can best answer that question immediately or get the information and return it to you.
How long does this take? Can I get this done express or in a couple days total?
We repair 30-40 consoles a week. This means your unit needs to get checked in, put in the que for bench work, be repaired and then complete 2-3 days of heatup and cool down testing. The total time at our facility is normally 5-8 business days. We provide express service when we can. Reflow vs reball?
OK so this is a big one. The short answer is reflow is known as a temporary fix and reball is considered permanent. The differences are not that simple in reality. Reball has a small chance of failure. I do not think we ever had that problem to date but understand this risk in advance reball can fail and make the board no longer repairable. Now on the other hand normally a reball is a very good repair and does last indefinitely. Your machine will normally have a different failure before the reball will fail. Reflow should last a year or more. It can last as short as 90 days but this should not be the case. See warranty information for more details on this.
Everything we touch now carries a one year warranty. Two things to know about this are as follows: 1- We will not cover problems that do not pertain to the job we performed. 2- The customer is responsible for all shipping payments. This means that if there is a warranty failure we will pay for the labor and repair of the unit - you will pay the shipping fees only.
My machine has a disk stuck in the drive what should I do?
If you open the Blu Ray drive when a disk is stuck in it and send it in for repair you will be charged an additional $10. This is due to the fact that the rails will collapse when you removed the disk and the drive will no longer take in and spit out a disk without the rails being reset. This takes time to do and test in addition to the initial repair and it is a $10 billable service. Almost 60% of YLOD machines have disks stuck in them. We are used to this and will remove the disk and put it in a CD holder and return it safely with the unit, not in the unit so make sure you check the box before throwing it out when it is returned. We accept zero responsibility for disks left in the drive and have no way to verify they were ever there other then to find them and return them. So if one did not come back with the unit we did not find one in the unit.
Should I remove my hard drive or can I just send the mainboard in for repair?
We do not need the hard drive to repair your unit. Keep it or send it is your choice. We do not reformat or reset the hard drive unless it was required to be done for the repair. So if you have years of data on your drive I suggest you keep it with you safe as we do not guarantee it will be returned with your data on it. The minimum parts needed for the job is the bottom half of the PS3 unit and the whole XBOX console in total. So only the PS3 can be sent as a partial unit for repair. We do not warranty partial units but we can repair them and return them. Partial PS3 is defined as everything from the mainboard down. That includes the metal frame around the mainboard, the lower plastic housing below the mainboard and anything between the two.
My unit is not YLOD but it has no video? My unit was returned and I can not get video on the TV?
A common misdiagnosed problem is no video. The PS3 has a built in autosensing HDMI video sensor. This means that if you play on HDMI connection then return the regular AV connection it will not change as it is only a one-way automatic function. To reset your video you must cycle power on the PS3 two times and hold the power button for the full duration twice. This is done as follows. Turn on the power switch on the back of the PS3. The front led should be red. Put your finger on the power button and hold it there till the unit powers on and eventually turns back off. Do that 2 times. At the end of a successfull second time the unit will beep twice confirming it has been reset. If your unit will not beep twice or it still has no video then it will need repair. If you just got your unit back from repair you may need to do this. We try to do this on all units before they are returned but may miss one or two as we do full testing in HDMI and do not always get to reset prior to shipping it back.
Are some models of PS3s less likely to be sucessful with reflow or reball?
This is the million dollar question and YES there definitely is different success rates for different models. First take the slim PS3 for example, the slim unit is a miniaturized mainboard and draws less heat so it will not always respond to reflow or reball and the success rate is near 50%. Next, take the CECHH01 and CECHL01 they are the next models before the slim and are also miniaturized. The H and L units are about 80% repairable. All other models including the CECHG01, CECHK01, CECHA01, CECHE01 are rather common success boards and can be as high as 95% when still retaining the original seal or 65% when the seal has been removed. The CECHB01 is a rather old unit and has a very poor video controller. It is rather high percentage to repair but the video portion is sometimes damaged throught the YLOD process and the clean repair rate is about 75% for this model.
My unit has the seal removed, I heard they can not be repaired is this true?
NO this is not true and we repair all units good, bad and the ugly. Now please note this: Opened units or removed seal units average 50% less repair rates. So if you check the previous question above you can deduct 50% from the success rate. Why is this? You may ask. That is a good question. This is simply because opened seals mean someone has played around inside the unit. They may have taken a peek or they may have stripped the unit and put the mainboard in the oven at 350 like they were cooking a chicken. I have personally seen these things and much more. So if this unit is not yours and you bought it this way be prepared. I have done enough boards to take one look at the unit after opening and I can tell exactly what was done to it and whether or not it will be a difficult repair. So my advice is call us if this is your situation because I hate to see a completely wrecked system mailed here for repair when there is no way ever to fix it.
How should I ship my unit to you?
Please pay attention to this last question. It may determine whether your unit gets repaired or not and has nothing to do with us as a repair facility. If you flat rate your machine to us - expect to get it back damaged. Also, expect USPS to not cover the damage at all. Neither UPS or USPS will cover damage if the unit is not packed with 2-4" of packing material on all four sides of the console. This is somewhat rediculous but true. They will let you pay for insurance but they will not cover the unit when it is smashed. Almost 50% of the units that are flat rate shipped to us and damaged. The most common being the front of the PS3 getting face smashed and the seam being craked open during shipping. Keep in mind that this unit has sat on a desk somewhere and heated up to a couple hundred degrees inside and cooled down to normal room tamperature many times and it is made up of plastic entirely on the outside. This plastic becomes very brittle and till just crack all apart if smacked around. If you ship cheap expect damage to your unit. We return the unit with at least 2-4 laters of bubble wrap on all sides and foam peanuts if needed so we take no liability for damage to the unit. We also only insure the unit for $100 if you want it covered higher this is your responsibility and you need to tell us before ordering the repair.
